For years 'The Man' has smote ill sourced apple concentrates into thin, bland beverages that they call 'cider' - we at Beard & Sabre, shall suffer it no longer. Why should we turn our backs on our heritage? the fermentation of the forbidden fruit has been a part of our isles since the first roots of the ancient apple trees took hold on Britannia's soil. It is time to reinvigorate cider, not to water it down or to add chemical flavourings, or cider gods forbid, produce high ABV, low quality, bottom shelf beverages.
Beard & Sabre began in 2015 as an answer to the craft beer revolution. Why has cider been left behind? Often seen as a lower quality drink, it has struggled to compete with the image of other craft products. We set off to create ciders that not only respected the British cidermaking tradition, but to offer new and exciting cider concepts that are made with love and care, without the use of artificial flavourings or juice concentrates. Tom and Angus, originally a Naval Officer and an Archaeologist, have experience in both CAMRA traditional cidermaking and corporate flavoured cidermaking – they discovered that 'craft' cidermaking belongs to neither. The path to a delicious, natural, craft drink lies where tradition meets vision – a foundation built on respect for heritage combined with natural craft ingenuity – hopped cidermaking through and through.
